I love a good high fashion designer outfit as much as the next person, but in my reality I cannot afford my tastes. Yes, I do splurge on nice things from time to time, but I have never been able to bring myself to purchase a big, expensive item because it is just not in my financial budget at the moment. Realizing this, I said to myself, well I still want to have pieces that can look like designer high-end pieces that I love, but for much less and without spending an arm and leg with a side of guilt attached. So for years, I have been looking for expensive outfits that inspire me and recreate the looks by finding similar pieces for less.
For example, I found this blue suit outfit by fashion designer Oscar de la Renta while surfing on Pinterest; a beautiful powder blue suit with a blue floral print tube top, and silver heels. I saw the price and was like, yea right, the suit alone is $2,000. Unfortunately, so lovely, but not in my budget (I wish). So, I took to the web and googled descriptions for each piece to find this whole look…from head to toe from the blazer, top, pants, AND the shoes; for $160.
Below, shop this Oscar de la Renta inspired look for less. I am so pleased with how this outfit turned out! I feel guilty free and not worried about my clumsiness in case I get something on it, plus I feel really good about the price because I am not sacrificing style.
To finding similar items here are a few tips:
1. Start by breaking down the look. For this look, I searched powder blue blazer jackets and pants, separately (it was hard to find a complete suit for a lower price)
2. Then move to the next item. For the tube top, I searched women’s blue floral tube top and blue and white floral crop top. This particular top was very hard to find, it took me a few re-wordings to find something that was similar.
3. Move on to any accessories for the shoes. I searched metallic silver heels, silver heels, and so on.
